In 2023, the Department of Health Care Services will apply for a new Medicaid Section 1115 Demonstration to increase access to and improve mental health services for Medi-Cal members statewide. This will permit states to secure Federal Financial Participation (FFP) for services provided during short-term stays, defined as stays up to 60 days, in psychiatric hospitals or residential treatment settings that are considered IMDs.
