At a signing ceremony on Wednesday, Governor Newsom signed SB 1338 (Umberg) into law. Of note: during the press conference, a reported said to the Governor, “…civil rights groups have threatened to sue, noting that some have said this will stop the most at need population from getting the help they need because they do not want to go to court.” In response, Governor Newsom said, “I am just exhausted, I think their point of view has been well advanced for a half-century in the state of California. Their point of view is expressed by what you see on the streets and sidewalks. Their point of view was presented in the legislature and was overwhelmingly rejected. A progressive legislature said enough we want to do better….”
