Public Conservators Say Newsom’s Mental Health Courts will Increase Workload

Counties Comment in Greater Detail 

The California State Association of Counties and the Urban Counties of California have finalized their comment letters regarding the CARE Court framework. You may view them here: CSAC CARE Court Comment Letter,UCC CARE Court Comment Letter. For those of you who reviewed the draft UCC letter last week, differences between that and the finalized version are: 1) they now raise the issue of complexity around individuals with schizophrenia and psychosis, that the length of oversight by a CARE Court may not coincide with length of treatment; 2) concerns about the potential impacts generally on county behavioral health and human services; and 3) the need for additional resources to properly create treatment plans and ensure proper reporting to the court.
