New Behavioral Health Assessment Report

Last fall, CSAP participated in stakeholder meetings with the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and its consultants to inform DHCS’ behavioral health assessment report. DHCS is excited to share that the report is out. Please see the announcement below; the report is also linked. DHCS will host a webinar next Friday afternoon at 2 pm PT. SYASL will participate and provide notes to you all.

According to DHCS, “Behavioral health is a top priority of the Newsom Administration, and the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need to invest in behavioral health services across California. To inform future planning, the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), in collaboration with its stakeholders, produced an assessment report on California’s behavioral health system: Assessing the Continuum of Care for Behavioral Health Services in California: Data, Stakeholder Perspectives, and Implications.

This report reviews data and stakeholder perspectives as DHCS implements major behavioral health initiatives, including: the Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program; our response to new federal funding opportunities; and our proposal for a Section 1115 Medicaid demonstration waiver in 2022 to strengthen mental health services for people living with serious mental illness and children and youth living with serious emotional disturbance.”
