SB 58 (Wiener), has passed the legislature and is heading to the Governor’s desk. SB 58 would, on and after January 1, 2025, make lawful the possession, preparation, obtaining, or transportation of, specified quantities of psilocybin, psilocyn, dimethyltryptamine, and mescaline, for personal use, by and with persons 21 years of age or older. The bill would provide penalties for possession of these substances on school grounds, or possession by, or transferring to, persons under 21 years of age.
Also, a new initiative has been floated. The Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) released its findings on the “TREAT California Act“, which stands for Treatment, Research, Education, Access, and Therapies. This initiative would be financed through general obligation bonds, and funding would be contingent upon specific milestones described by the law. You may view the LAO’s report here.
